Welcome to October at BASC

October is here, and there is plenty happening at the Barre Area Senior Center. Along with our regular weekly activities, we have meals, creative programs, outdoor activities, presentations, and other opportunities to get involved throughout the month.

As the weather gets cooler, this month is also a good time to start thinking about preparing for winter. Staying connected, planning ahead, and knowing what resources are available can make the colder months a little easier.

We hope you’ll take a look through this month’s newsletter and calendar, try something new, and join us at the Center!

October Focus: Getting Ready for Colder Weather

Fall in Vermont doesn’t last long, and now is a good time to start preparing for the months ahead. That might mean checking your heating system, making sure you have important medications and supplies on hand, preparing your vehicle for winter weather, or learning about heating and weatherization assistance that may be available.

It’s also important to think about staying connected during the winter months. BASC will continue offering programs, meals, activities, and opportunities to get out of the house and spend time with others throughout the season.

If you are looking for assistance or aren’t sure where to start, please ask us. BASC has information about a variety of local resources and organizations that may be able to help.

AROUND BASC

Thank You to Our Outreach Volunteers!

BASC has been spending more time out in the community, helping people learn about the programs, activities, and resources available at the Senior Center. We greatly appreciate the volunteers who give their time to attend community events, talk with residents, answer questions, and help introduce new people to BASC.

These events are an important way for us to reach people who may not yet know everything the Senior Center has to offer.

A New BASC Website Is on the Way

Work is underway on a completely rebuilt Barre Area Senior Center website.

The goal of the new site is to make it much easier to find the information people are looking for. Upcoming programs and events, newsletters, information about BASC, Board information, ways to support the Center, and contact information will all be easier to access.

The new website is also being designed with accessibility in mind, including larger text, simpler navigation, and a cleaner layout.

We look forward to sharing it with everyone soon!

Program Spotlight: Cribbage

Looking for a relaxed way to spend a Friday morning at BASC? Cribbage meets every Friday at the Center and is a great opportunity to enjoy a few games, keep your mind active, and spend time with others.

Whether you’ve been playing for years or just enjoy a good card game, Cribbage offers a casual and social way to end the week. Stop in, pull up a chair, and join the group!

New players are always welcome.
