About Us

Founded on volunteer principles

Join us as we celebrate

The Barre Area Senior Center Board of Directors announces its 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration, set for Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at 6:30 p.m., with a wine-and-cheese social from 5-6 p.m. Our gala is part of our focus this year on “50/50/50”—while marking this historic date—50 years, we hope to bring in 50 new members age 50 and up! Please join us for this very special celebration where the menu will feature baked chicken, pasta primavera (vegetarian option), potatoes, vegetable-in-season, salad, a celebration dessert and fresh fruit. For your convenience, you may make an online payment–just follow the instructions and click on the “Donate To BASC” button and follow the instructions.

Barre Area Senior Center (BASC) formed in 1968 with a small group of volunteers who were looking to socialize and offer opportunities for local seniors.  BASC was housed in the historic Wheelock Building until 2014 when it moved to 131 So. Main St., the E.F. Wall Complex.  Thanks to the generosity of the Ronald York Estate, BASC was able to hire a director in 2011 and helped to fund the move to a larger and more user-friendly space.

Barre Area Senior Center’s mission is “The Barre Area Senior Center provides access to programs and resources that help older adults live independently and remain active.” The programming continues to increase and number of participants is also growing with our mission as our guiding force.  Baby Boomers aging will, in part, determine the continued growth rate.  The Senior Center continues to play a vital role in supporting our aging community members.

We are not just a center…we are a community!

Programs with you in mind

The Barre Area Senior Center currently serves about 300 members, most of whom reside in Barre City and Barre Town, as well as older adults from various central Vermont towns, including Berlin, Montpelier, Plainfield, Orange, Washington, Williamstown and East Calais. BASC relies on donations, fundraisers, voter-approved funding, and endowment gifts. BASC is an independent 501c3 charitable nonprofit, and as such, welcomes your tax-deductible donation for our ongoing needs. We hope you will consider BASC when you are completing your will or doing estate planning.

The age to participate at the center is 50, and a requested annual donation of only $25 provides benefit to members with broad programming.

Visit soon and begin taking advantage of all the low-and no-cost programs we are able to offer you, your friends and family.

Please use the “Donate to BASC” button below to make your membership payment. Payments for our 50th Annual Gala Celebration may be made here as well. Please note “membership” or “gala celebration” so we can direct your payment! And thanks–we look forward to seeing you soon!
